Popular Polish Lullaby Kotki Dwa (Two Kittens)
Kotki Dwa
Aaa, kotki dwa,
szarobure obydwa,
nic nie będą robiły,
tylko ciebie bawiły.
Aaa, kotki dwa,
szarobure obydwa,
jak się kotki rozigrały,
to dziecinę kołysały.
Aaa, kotki dwa,
szarobure obydwa,
jeden szary, drugi bury,
a ten trzeci myk! do dziury.
Aaa, kotki dwa,
szarobure obydwa,
żeby tylko jeden był,
to by z Tobą mleczko pił.
Two Kittens
Aaah, two kittens
Both brownish-grey,
they won’t do a thing
other than playing with you
Aaah, two kittens
Both brownish-grey,
They started playing with each other
and rocking they baby
Aaah, two kittens
Both brownish-grey,
One is grey, second brown
And third one hopped to the hole
Aaah, two kittens
Both brownish-grey,
If there was only one
then it would drink milk with you
I’ve remembered my whole life just a fragment of this lullaby that my Polish mother sang to me when I was very young. Or at least what it sounded like to me. This is it. I’m sure of it. How remarkable to find it now at age 69. Thanks to mypolishheritage.com
Love this tune. I used to sing it to all of my great grand kids, minutes after birth to bond with them. Have done it with 15 grandkids, and six great grand kids. One more Great on the way at the end of June. Sadly had the opportunity to sing it once to a Great grandkid who was still born. Sad, but he deserved the same treatment and love as the others. His name was Luke, and his date of Birth/Death was August 2002. Please say a prayer for him.
